Keys to Creating Peaceful and Inspiring Interiors

Many of us are finding ourselves asking more from our homes with much more time on our hands. Here are 5 simple tips to shift and lift your mood in your living space.

1. Declutter: First and foremost when it comes to interior decorating or styling, the more is not merrier. If you find yourself with some extra time on your hands try evaluating one room at a time, choosing one area within that room to begin. And in the words of renowned organizing consultant Marie Kondo, ask yourself with each item- “Does this spark joy?”

2. Simplicity: Clean space, clean decor, clean lines creates calm. Your brain knows, even if you aren’t conscious of it. This is also a perfect time to gather those extra items together to donate.

3. Neutrals: When trying to achieve a soothing, peaceful environment soft colors and a neutral palette is ideal. Another positive is they are usually timeless and if you choose to go further will have a fantastic foundation to play around with layering colors with decor and art.

4. Get inspired: Adding pops of color for vibrance and energy. Create calm in one area removing color and revitalizing another with it. Orange and yellow are amazing for evoking creativity and a playful mood. Red inspires vivacity. When you use these colors in the right spaces they can lift the mood and enhance the use of space. ie. dining room, playroom/game room or hallway.

5. Natural elements: Integrated with interiors the effect has proven to reduce stress and fatigue while increasing focus, mood and creativity. Plants are a super easy way to bring in an element of nature. Another option is using natural materials, ie. fabrics including ethical silk and linen. Scented candles can also add to the natural sensory experience. The Pure Bliss candle from Ayervedic oil company, Uma, (supplier to Tom Ford Beauty) is pure heaven.
