What is Reiki and How Can it Help?

We have energy flowing inside us and around us, as does everything in the world.

When we are feeling unbalanced or “out-of-sorts,” our energy is not flowing properly. This can cause spiritual, emotional or even physical problems.

Reiki helps to get the energy flowing in its natural rhythm. The reiki practitioner does not add or take energy away from the client- she merely removes any blockages and helps the body return to its proper energetic state.

A metaphor for this process is someone with a blockage of an artery seeing a cardiologist; the cardiologist removes the blockage and gives blood thinners to get blood flowing in the body.

Reiki does this for the energy component of your body.

During a session, the client lies down on the table (or sits in a relaxed position in a chair if there are physical concerns), closes their eyes and breathes. The client’s job during the session is to let go and relax and allow the practitioner to care for them for an hour. The practitioner hovers her hands and lays hands as needed, locating and getting the energy flowing.

The client may experience different sensations during the session depending on where the energy has been concentrated in the body.  Or, they may fall asleep; sometimes the body needs to shut down so that the work can be done without interruption.

After the session, the client should be prepared to have a relaxing day as the work in the session does not end in the session. Feelings or shifts in the body may continue to occur. I give my clients mindfulness exercises to help maintain the body’s balance so they may be more aware of when it is not balanced in the future.

Reiki is not an alternative for medical treatment, but it can help supplement the process of whole body healing.

Becca Kidwell suffered with panic attacks, anxiety and depression from the time she was eight years old. Finding out this was caused by Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder she got involved with reiki, the Alexander Technique, yoga, mindfulness and healthy eating to combat that, and she now can be found backstage at shows as “the calm one.”  She decided she wanted to empower others with the tools and techniques that helped her.

Becca studied reiki for multiple years, is accredited in aromatherapy and  thrives helping others find balance in this chaotic world. You can find out more about Becca and get in touch at beccawell.com.
